Kukri made of D2. Looks fantastic. Very well made, with the just thus right length of blade (21 cm) and weight of 460 grams it rocks. Chopping, batoning, cutting are as simple as breathing. Holds edge perfectly. I am really impressed. The only minus is the sheath. The color combination sucks (black/tan), the sheath retention is weak. A pity, such a good knife would deserve a much better sheath. However, for the price a real bargain.

Been looking for a good camping/ Bushcraft knife for a while. I'm a big fan of D2 steel and it holds up well! This knife chops, batons, strips, and cuts as advertised. My only complaints are, mine came to me extremely dull and and to spend a lot of time getting it to where it should be, the extras on the sheath are a little gimmicky; I like the fire starter but the compass and thermometer don't work. Lastly, having a lanyard hole would be great, especially because it comes with 550 cord. All in all it's a great, tough knife and would definitely buy from HX Outdoors again.

This is a full tang knife that has good weight without being too heavy. Great knife to take hiking, camping, or just outside around the farm. I ordered the knife with the compass, fire starter, whistle, and knife sharpener. It says it has a thermometer but if it has one, I'm unaware of where it is. Also states that it has a lanyard which I normally think of as a way to hang it around your neck. It does have a length of lace that I would think should be used to secure the lower portion of the sheath to your leg to keep it from swinging against your leg from your where it is looped onto your belt. To each his own, I guess. However you choose to carry the sheath, it seems reasonably well made and fits the knife well. The handle is rubber and has a good feel in the hand. Add that to the weight and it has a nice swing. The upper back side of the blade is also angled and can be used to chop. There's a lot to like about this machete and it has, so far, cut well without damaging the blade. I, personally, feel that the price point is a bit high, but it is a nice addition to my outdoor gear.

I really like the weight on this knife. It comes nice and sharp and can be resharpened quite easily. It comes with a nice hard plastic sheath. Also has a ferro rod attached. The handle is grippy for use in wet conditions. This knife is a great camping knife. Or even as a survival item. Very nice product for the price too!!! I would highly recommend this knife for almost any use.

For $100 the quality on a lot of the parts of this kit are not up to par. The handle, cheap rubber. The sheath strap, the cheapest webbing you could find. The kydex sheath itself is a lot more flimsy and hollow feeling than other kydex pieces i have.

The machete itself is not bad, thick and sturdy. Blade comes dull, but it's better for chopping anyway. The fire striker is sub-par. Any real modern piece of flint sparks like no other. This one does not.

All in all, I wouldn't recommend this at $100.

As the box says, "Every man deserves a exceptional knife." My wife and daughters do too. I was pleased to see the knife come in a gift ready box as they are likely to ask me for it. The first thing you notice is the sheath is unusual. It's made of Kydex, a thermoplastic acrylic-polyvinyl chloride. IE - acrylic PVC and yes I had to look that up. I wasn't sure what to expect but it's a very good material for this. It's firm and allows the knife to go in and out easily. The sheath attaches to your belt with a well sewn leather loop. The leather loop is held with screws. This means that years from no when a rivet would have pulled loose you'll still be in business.

The rubber handle is also connected with heavy screws and feels very good. It will give you a little cushion when using the knife for it's designed purpose - cutting limbs and heavier garden materials.

The blade is, of course, the star of the show. It is a thing of beauty. Made from D2 steel full tang and coated with a black titanium finish. It's sharp out of the box and could be sharpened even more. If you are going to hack and chop you may want to just keep the edge as is. The 14" knife has a sharp tip and includes a finger grip for better control. They call it a machete or Kukri and it seems well suited to either description. For knife fans they add that the blade has a hardness rating of 60 HRC. A 60 rating says it's very hard and should hold an edge well. Many Japanese knives are in this range. 60 HRC blades may tend to break if used incorrectly.

I am really fond of this knife. So much so that I'd hate to use it and scratch it up. No problem, I'll get over it next time I go for a difficult hike.

This is a solid heavyweight machete as described with the plusses. I can't wait to take it out hiking/camping. Will update after that time.

This Machete is of excellent quality and craftsmanship! It's a formidable tool that has left me thoroughly impressed. The blade design is effective, and the balance and weight feel just right. It arrives super sharp right out of the box, and as a bonus, it includes a fire starter. The handle provides a comfortable grip with a rubberized feel that isn't sticky, which is a great feature.

Overall, it's a fantastic product, and I highly recommend it, especially considering its price point!

This kukri is nice for the price. Handle is very comfortable and the rubber gives it a firm, non-slip grip. The sheath fit well and secure.
I had a go at a smallish bush; the smallest branches were no problem, the bigger ones took several strikes before cutting through, and didn't leave a clean edge.
All in all, reasonably priced kukri with comfortable grip and so-so sharpness.

I'm not sure when exactly I would use this thing, but I do enjoy hiking and foraying occasionally into the outdoors. I like the bells and whistles on it: yes, you would expect the fire starter and the cord, but the compass and thermometer are nice touches. The machete itself feels great. It has a nice heft to it, but also feels well-balanced. I took it to town on a couple random sticks outside and it made quick work of them. Something like this I think is just good to have on hand just in case, especially if you do anything outdoorsy.

Has a good heavy weight to it. I love the chopping feature on the top. I love the flint, compass, whistle feature. This thing is an awesome thing to have in your collection of survival gear or if you just spend time in the woods. They thought of everything. Nice

Clearly, I am not the target audience for this seller's products. They've chosen to say so right on the box: 'Every Man Deserves An Exceptional Knife' ' HX Outdoors's slogan printed on the kukri packaging. I suppose this puts them in an unfortunate position, as I am not a man. Yet here I am, a person who thought their knife looked cool, only to unbox it and see marketing garbage like that. And here I thought that people of all genders use knives every day, sometimes just to butter their toast!

I want to be clear, I would have never chosen this kukri for review if I'd realized how exclusionary the company is. Totally willing to give foreign-made items a chance, but if the vibe is off, I'm out.

But now that I have it, it's a bit too late. So, let's get into it!

The first thing I noticed is that the peak (the outer 'corner') is so undistinguished you'd be forgiven for thinking it's just a generic machete. It's also reasonably compact for a fixed blade like this, about a hand span (as measured from tip of pinky to thumb). Sort of like someone took my pocket knife and cranked it up a few notches to bushcraft size and heft. To be clear, I do like the size; it's small enough to carry without being a bother, and large enough to have a broad set of use cases.

You also have the weight of a kukri, the wider spine, wide blade, and sharp point that *could* be used as a shovel in a pinch. I'd still love to see more curvature with a profile more like the angular inner edge of a boomerang. The signature 'wedge' shape is part of what allows kukris to do heavy duty hacking of branches, not just the soft grasses and fresh underbrush that other machetes can handle. I also wish the notch (they're calling it a finger groove) was bladed, not spine-width.

The rubber handle has very good grip but not much style, the bolts from the full tang are uncapped and plain on the black grid-texture; the effect is a bit like barbecue tongs.

I'm not sure the sheath needed a fire steel and compass; it's giving 'I got a boyscout badge so my dad said I can hold his knife.' It's whatever, you might like it if you're doing low-tech treks or outdoors skill-building. The fire steel does work (strike it on the small 'catch' step on the knife's spine).

I am happy to see a steel-reinforced sheath, although the rest of the housing feels like your basic ABS (plastic). It'll work.

Overall, it's a decent and affordable bushcraft knife. You're not looking at a 'slice sheets of newsprint' sharpness out of the box, but it can hack through cardboard, dry wood, and fresh stems/twigs pretty well. (My apologies to the hedge.)

Do always check your city/county/state/province/territory/oblast laws regarding knife ownership and carry. In my state, it is legal to own and use knives of any length, but this kukri would be considered a deadly weapon that must be open carried at all times. Failure to do so would be a misdemeanor offense.

But seriously, go buy from another company that doesn't think men are the only gender needing to get things done. What a joke.

Has a hard case, para-cord, compass, and a fire starter. Pretty awesome survival tool. The knife has a very good weight to it. A great tool to bring to the great outdoors.

Well, actually it's probably considered a machete or possibly a kukri more than it would be considered a knife' but you get the idea!

This machete, by HX, feels VERY nice in the hand! It's not so heavy (or long) that you feel like you're wielding a sword around. But it has enough heft to it that you feel like you'll have enough weight behind it that you'll be able to hack your way through some fairly thick brush.

The handle is made of what feels to be rubber and gives you a very good, firm grip on it. It doesn't feel like it's going to slip out of your hand or slide around even when your hand gets sweaty.

The sheath is good. It does its job and holds the machete in place just fine. Since I do leather work' I'll probably end up making my own leather sheath for it. That's not to be taken as a slam against the sheath that comes with this machete' I just prefer leather since I work in leather!

I'm quite pleased with this machete and look forward to putting it to good use in the very near future! If you're in need of a machete' at this price point, this is a good one to put your eyeball on and consider!

Nice blade….great handle and light weight

Bored, so bought cool tools. Sale plus discount knocked a lot off list, so what the hell. I'm no knife expert, and I'm shallow, but being gorgeously black top-to-bottom, I'm fantasizing an AR and a jungle (where I'd probably get killed). The comfortable, nonslip, rubberized grip sort of massages my smallish hands (don't know if I should have said that). It's pleasantly weighty and so swings super sweetly. Once I've got it in hand, I don't want to let go--it feels way too good. For my purposes, it came perfectly sharpened, no scalpel, but easily sliced paper and my careless finger. The scabbard appears durable, and I love the positive snap strap around the handle--not getting out. Unexpectedly, the knife-in-scabbard came in an OK, rather large, black, ABS (?) clamshell case, which I'll use othewise. Now I need an excuse. If it fails, I'll update, but I'd be shocked, given obvious quality and likely only light-to-moderate use. Honestly, if you destroy this thing, you're as much of a badass as it is. A truly wonderful addition to my tool collection. God, did I mention how great it feels--right now, at least until the freshness fades some, I can't seem to leave it alone for any length of time (that sounds dirty).

I like this Khukuri clone a lot. I love the blade design and overall appearance. First, D2 steel is a great material for this type of knife: it's strong, holds an edge well, and is easy to sharpen. Right out of the box, this knife came surprisingly sharp. It definitely is sharp enough for its intended purpose: to chop and slice. I made it a bit sharper by using the KaBar brand sharpener. This tool really does a great job of sharpening. The blade is forward heavy, as it should be in order for this design to perform to an optimum level. The eight inch blade length is really a nice size: not too small and not too large. I also like the fact that the blade is a bit thicker than many others in this general class of edged implements. It feels incredibly solid while being easy to manipulate.

The rubber handle has plenty of room, and it feels great in the hand. It's secure and comfortable.

The sheath is very light weight yet sturdy. I don't care for the strap that goes round the handle. It always seems to be in the way. I wish the sheath were MOLLE compatible so I could attach it to my backpack. The reinforced holes in the sheath will allow the use of paracord, so it can still be attached to your gear if you prefer. Other than this, I have no issues at all with the sheath. It's a lot nicer than most other leather and polymer sheaths I have seen.

The retail price of this knife on hxoutdoors is (right now) $112, but it was 40% off when I bought this one, so it ended up costing $67, which is a great deal. It's worth every penny. Realistically, its full price is still a good value, but $67 is a lot nicer.

All things considered, this is a great piece and I am 100% pleased with the purchase.

The kydex sheath is much nicer than those crappy leather and canvas ones.
The shorter length fits in my backpack perfectly

I have a few Kukri knives and in my opinion would be quite suitable as a daily use or working knife. It's light weight and comfortable in the hand. The blade is sharp but could be sharper. This is not a knife to be used as a display piece. It's made to be used for things like light chopping/cutting, camping, or as an everyday knife for those who are outdoors a lot. It's weight is perfect for light duty. Nice knife as a general purpose tool.
